Haiti - Elections : Working visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the CEP

Foreign Minister Raina Forbin, accompanied by her Chief of Staff Winnie Hugot Gabriel and the Ministry’s Director General Christian Toussaint, held a working meeting earlier this week at the headquarters of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in Pétion-ville.

This meeting was part of ongoing discussions between the CEP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding preparations for the pilot project on voting by the Haitian diaspora ahead of the upcoming elections.

The meeting also addressed the steps to be taken with authorities in the relevant countries, follow-up on exploratory missions, and the conditions required to conduct electoral operations abroad in compliance with the prevailing legal and institutional framework.

The CEP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs intend to continue their collaboration and dialogue to help prepare an electoral system that enables the organized participation of the Haitian diaspora in the countries where the pilot project will be implemented.

The Electoral Council reaffirms its commitment to conducting the electoral process in an inclusive, impartial, transparent, and responsible manner, in strict adherence to the principles of electoral independence and integrity, as well as every citizen's right to participate in the country's democratic life.
