Haiti - LAC Transport Forum 2026 : Investment Opportunities in Haiti's Transport Sector

On the first day of the Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC) Transport Forum 2026, a high-level gathering held in Miami and co-organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC)—Minister of Public Works Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis presented key investment prospects in Haiti to an audience of ministers, public policymakers, and major private-sector stakeholders.

Minister Pierre Louis’s goal is to upgrade the quality of Haiti’s infrastructure and position the country as a land of strategic opportunity for regional and international investors.

Discussions focused primarily on how governments can build market confidence, streamline project preparation, and ensure governance centered on performance and infrastructure quality. This strategic platform laid the conceptual groundwork for aligning the vision of states with the requirements and expectations of private investors.

This first day of policy dialogue established the foundations for a shared regional vision, paving the way for the presentation of specific project opportunities.

On the second day of the Forum, September 30, 2026, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) hosted the "Project Roadshow" a strategic forum designed specifically for the private sector and international investors.

At this event, Minister of Public Works Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis presented an overview of investment opportunities in Haiti’s transport sector. In his remarks, he highlighted the Haitian government's commitment to modernizing road, maritime, and airport networks in order to improve connectivity for isolated areas, stimulate economic recovery, and strengthen the country's resilience against natural hazards.

The Minister outlined several major projects included in the national portfolio.

Regarding road infrastructure, his Ministry plans to build three strategic bridges in the southern peninsula—funded by the World Bank—and to develop a road link connecting National Route 2 to the new international port at Saint-Louis-du-Sud.

In the aviation sector, the presentation highlighted the construction of a new control tower at Cap-Haïtien International Airport with World Bank support, as well as a modernization program for Les Cayes International Airport funded by the IDB.

Highlighting Haiti's economic potential, Minister Pierre Louis called upon regional companies and partners, inviting them to participate in upcoming procurement processes and contribute to the transformation of Haiti's infrastructure.
