Kidnappings up 42%

According to UN figures, kidnappings in Haiti have increased by 42% compared to the previous quarter. At least 81 people were reportedly abducted in Haiti between April and June 2026. However, the figures are undoubtedly higher, as some families do not report the abductions for fear of reprisals or to avoid complicating negotiations with the kidnappers.

Winners of the BNH Competition

On Friday, October 2nd, 2026, at the Karibe Hotel, as part of the activities marking the centenary of René Depestre, the National Library of Haiti (BNH) announced the results of the Grand National Reading Competition. The grand finale brought together nine finalists before an audience of teachers, parents, representatives of cultural institutions, and members of the diplomatic corps. The winners are : 1st Place : Emmanuel Woodly François; 2nd Place : Wilflore Louis; and 3rd Place : Wis-Endia Luberisse.

Investment Opportunities

Investment opportunities in Haiti's industrial sector were the focus of discussions this Friday morning at the Karibe Hotel, on the second day of Industry Week 2026. The various speakers addressed mechanisms for facilitating investment, supporting businesses, and the importance of standardization to strengthen national production and stimulate industrial development in Haiti.

CEP Observers in Brazil and Canada

Two delegations of members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announce that two (2) delegations of its members are in Brazil and Canada to observe the elections to be held in these two countries on October 4th and October 5th. These missions aim to observe the voting process, learn about the practices and mechanisms implemented by the electoral institutions of both countries, and foster the exchange of electoral experiences.
