Jean Massillon, the Mayor of Kenscoff, has died

Jean Massillon, the Mayor of Kenscoff, has died

On Friday, October 9, 2026, Massillon Jean, Pastor of the First Christian Church of Haiti and Mayor of the commune of Kenscoff in Haiti since 2020, died of a respiratory illness.

Reacting to this sudden disappearance, the Prime Minister in a press release paid tribute to him and sent its most saddened condolences to his family, his loved ones, his collaborators as well as the entire population of Kenscoff, today plunged into mourning.

"[...] Jean Massillon was one of those men who did not shy away from adversity. While insecurity weighed heavily on the daily lives of his fellow citizens, he made the choice to remain present in his community and to carry the voice of his constituents, so that Kenscoff would never be abandoned. The Republic salutes with gratitude and respect the courage he demonstrated in the exercise of his functions.

Close to the population and attentive to the concerns, fears and hopes of his fellow citizens, Mayor Jean Massillon embodied the noblest values of public service : dedication, responsibility and loyalty to those who had placed their trust in him. Its commitment recalls the essential role of local elected officials, these women and men who, every day, remain in contact with realities on the ground and work for the continuity of community life within the communes of Haiti.

His passing leaves a huge void within his family and the community he devotedly served. It reminds us, with seriousness, that citizen security, national solidarity and the strengthening of local authorities constitute fundamental responsibilities that we must assume collectively and tirelessly.

The Government bows to the memory of Jean Massillon and reaffirms its determination to work for a Haiti where every citizen can live in dignity, peace and security. It is in this spirit that public action will continue, inspired by the example of those who, like Mayor Jean Massillon, have chosen to serve their community with courage and dedication.

May his soul rest in Peace. May his commitment continue to inspire all those who will continue the work of development and reconstruction of Kenscoff and Haiti."
