4 million euros from the EU for the PMSAN 2 Food Security Program
Friday, October 9, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture (MARNDR) officially launched in the premises of the National Coordination of Food Security (CNSA) the component of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince of the 2nd Phase of the Multi-sectoral Food and Nutritional Security Program (PMSAN 2). The event took place in the presence of several personalities and strategic partners, including Hélène Roos the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union in Haiti, Charles Jean-Jacques, the National Authorizing Officer of the European Development Fund (EDF) and David Bruchon Director of Expertise France in Haiti. Funded by the European Union to the tune of €4,000,000, to which is added a MARNDR financing agreement of €254,280, this component of PMSAN 2 aims to sustainably improve the living conditions of vulnerable households in the West department. Planned over three years, it mainly targets the Palmes region (Léogâne, Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve). In his speech, the National Authorizing Officer also pleaded for the examination of a possibility of supporting the farmers of Kenscoff, severely affected by the violence, in order to promote the resumption of their agricultural activities and preserve their contribution to the food supply of the capital and the country "Kenscoff is an agricultural land which feeds the capital every day. When we help the farmers of Kenscoff to resume their activities, it is the capital and the whole country that we are helping." With PMSAN 2, the aim is to support 15,000 families, or more than 60,000 direct beneficiaries, through strengthening agricultural production and improving access to healthy and nutritious food. PMSAN 2 also provides for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems, the cultivation of agricultural land, the acquisition of equipment, the installation of greenhouses and the development of poultry production. The construction of a food quality control laboratory and the creation of temporary jobs for the benefit of thousands of agricultural workers are also planned. The capacities of Communal Agricultural Offices (BAC) and farmer organizations will also be strengthened. Coordination and supervision of the Metropolitan Area of Port-au-Prince will be ensured by the Ministry in partnership with Expertise France. HL/ S/ HaitLibre
