The Haiti Humanitarian Fund allocates US$75 million to help half a million Haitians.

Food, drinking water, medical care, and emergency shelter: more than half a million people in Haiti are set to receive life-saving aid soon. On Monday, October 12, 2026, the Haiti Humanitarian Fund, a financing mechanism designed to provide rapid, flexible support to humanitarian actors on the ground and managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), announced an additional $75 million allocation to address the most urgent needs arising from violence and displacement.

This funding will support 10 projects across 28 priority communes in the West, Centre, and Artibonite departments. It will provide emergency assistance to 507,000 people amidst escalating violence and disruptions to essential services. "This contribution will help sustain the response and preserve hard-won gains for millions of Haitians facing hunger, displacement, and the collapse of services," said Nicole Kouassi, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Haiti.

Beyond food, drinking water, medical care, and emergency shelter, the funds will strengthen protection for women and children at risk of abuse and exploitation.

Survivors of sexual violence will receive medical care and psychosocial support. The projects will also fund treatment for children suffering from acute malnutrition and provide assistance to people with disabilities. The allocation includes $4.5 million for a rapid response mechanism, enabling partners to intervene in the event of violence, displacement, or other sudden shocks.

Every dollar is allocated based on three criteria: needs, security risks, and access conditions. OCHA, which manages the fund, is also putting safeguards in place to ensure that aid arrives safely, in accordance with humanitarian principles, and without causing harm to the population.

Three consortia of Haitian NGOs, both national and local, will receive a portion of the funding directly, in line with global commitments to locally led responses. Operating on the front lines, where armed violence obstructs humanitarian access, these organizations will see their capacities and their role in the governance of the response strengthened. They will also have a greater say in strategic coordination and decision-making. "By placing national and local partners at the heart of this response, we are building a more sustainable humanitarian architecture for Haiti," stated Ms. Kouassi.

One of these consortia is led by a coalition in which women spearhead protection efforts. This approach aims to ensure that aid better addresses the specific risks faced by women and girls. "I am particularly encouraged to see women-led organizations spearheading the response regarding the protection of women and girls," Ms. Kouassi emphasized.
