On its official Facebook page, the Guatemalan military stated that it held a departure ceremony for a contingent from the 2nd Military Police Unit. This group will join the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti to participate in international security operations.

According to a statement from the Guatemalan military, the ceremony took place on the tarmac of a Guatemalan airbase. It was presided over by Major General Henry David Saenz Ramos, Guatemala’s Minister of National Defense. The U.S. military attaché accredited to Guatemala was also in attendance.

The military’s statement did not specify the number of soldiers in the contingent, nor did it provide the exact date of their arrival in Haiti.
