Haiti - Humanitarian: The country classified in the category of crises neglected and under funded
At the press briefing of the United Nations, February 2, 2012, Emmanuelle Schneider, spokesperson of the Office of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) gave an update on the funding situation of humanitarian aid to Haiti.

"Haiti is now among the country classified in the category of crises neglected and under funded. This ranking follows the analysis of the financing of humanitarian action in 2011 which was conducted by the United Nations" reported the spokesperson of teh OCHA who specified that on the $383 million requested through the Consolidated Appeals Process, only $210 million (55%) had been paid. Adding that as a result "the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), decided to allocate $8 million to the humanitarian response in Haiti. This is an emergency fund that will finance priority projects that meet the most pressing needs of vulnerable populations living in the camps. These include projects related to water, hygiene and sanitation [...]" recalling that the emergency fund of CERF, does not replace the traditional funding mechanisms.

Emmanuelle Schneider announced that a new funding appeal for 2012, amounting to $230.5 million has been launched and 1.7% so far of this appeal has been funded.
