Haiti - FLASH : Minister Monazard relies on the Haitian Diaspora as a lever for development

Friday, November 6, 2026, James Monazard Minister of Commerce and Industry (MCI) participated in the Annual Business Innovation Summit 2026 : Organized by the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida at Barry University in Miami.

After welcoming the efforts of the Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce, James Monazarda highlighted the potential of the Haitian diaspora as a lever for the country's economic development during his speech, "Haiti has no other options than to rely on its diaspora," he declared in front of an enthusiastic audience.

He highlighted the determining role of foreign investment in the development of the Haitian economy, believing that the difficulties currently facing the country should not overshadow the opportunities for investment and partnership. However, he insisted on the need to pay particular attention to the contribution of the Haitian diaspora, whose potential constitutes a strategic lever for the national economy.

Monazard highlighted the skills, expertise, professional networks as well as the entrepreneurial and financial capacities of the Haitian community, all resources likely to promote value creation, stimulate investment and strengthen the national economic fabric.

Furthermore, he welcomed the commitment of the Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce, which he congratulated for its initiative to reflect on current economic issues and the development prospects of Haiti. He thus recognized the importance of spaces for dialogue and consultation making it possible to bring economic actors together around common issues and concrete avenues of action.

Addressing the initiatives undertaken within the Ministry, James Monazard also presented the progress made in the integration of technologies into the operation of the Ministry's services in order to modernize public administration, improve service delivery mechanisms and strengthen the operational efficiency of the institution, for the benefit of users and economic operators.

To conclude, James Monazard reaffirmed the importance of mobilizing the skills, resources and innovation capacities of the diaspora, while continuing institutional modernization efforts. An approach that places the partnership between the State, the diaspora and the private sector at the heart of the prospects for transformation and development of the Haitian economy.
