Haiti - Politic : Important meeting on the strengthening of bilateral relations with the Dominican Republic

The President Michel Martelly, received Wednesday, February 29, at the National Palace, a Dominican delegation composed of Chancellor of Dominican Republic Carlos Morales Troncoso and of Dominican Ambassador in Haiti, Rubén Silié, to discuss of strengthening of relations Haitiano-Dominican.

The interlocutors discussed about the priority sectors of exchange and cooperation, in order to produce reflections on the major issues affecting their relationships and ensure the follow up of bilateral cooperation which aims to strengthen relations or sustainable economic development by identifying areas of cooperation to ensure a better future for people of both countries and ensure the optimal use of their resources to improve the quality of life of both peoples looking for a fair economic and social development.

The President Martelly congratulated the Dominican Chancellor for his interest in strengthening bilateral relations while reminding the Haitian people's desire to have relationships based on mutual respect with the Dominican Republic.

The priorities agreed by the two countries as part of he work of the CMB are :

  • Trade and Investment

  • Tourism

  • Agriculture and Environment

  • Higher Education, Science and Technology

  • Environment and Natural Resources

  • Culture, Education, Youth and Sports

  • Border and migration issues

  • Joint Projects of development

  • Public Health

  • Transport and Communications.

In addition, the Head of State was officially invited by Chancellor Carlos Morales Troncoso to visit the Dominican Republic on March 26.

For his part, Laurent Lamothe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated the same day to a working lunch at the restaurant "The View" in Petion Ville, with the Dominican delegation. The Minister Lamothe was accompanied by Ambassador of Haiti in Dominican Republic, Fritz Cinéas, of Representative of Haiti to the Joint Commission Haitiano-Dominican, Guy Williams and other representatives of the Haitian Chancellery. The Dominican Chancellor was accompanied for the occasion of Louis Bogaert, Vice Minister of External Relations and Julio Ortega both responsible of the Joint Bilateral Commission Dominicano-Haitian.

The Chancellor Lamothe has focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, at the level technical assistance in various areas of trade, tourism, education, investment and social projects allowing among others, to the disadvantaged, to receive financial support like in Dominican Republic.
