Haiti - Religion : Meeting of Bishops Dominicans and Haitians

The Bishops of the Dominican Republic and of Haiti will meet March 12, 2012, in Santo Domingo, to analyze the problems of both nations and the progress of the reconstruction process of Haiti.

The Dominican Episcopal Conference and the Episcopal Conference of Haiti generally meet at least every two years to discuss matters of common interest for both churches and social issues common to both countries.

On the agenda of the meeting, among the topics proposed, can be found the migration of Haiti towards the Dominican Republic,the relations between the two peoples and the development within the boundaries. It should also be question of the reconstruction of Haiti and the international community's role in this process. Should also be evaluated actions to be taken together by the two Episcopal Conferences.

The meeting will be held from Monday 12 to Wednesday night at 14 noon and will see the Bishops published a joint document at the end of the work. Will attend the meeting for Haiti the Archbishops of Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien, Their Excellencies NN. SS. Guire Poulard and Louis Kébreau, the latter being also President of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti, and the Bishops of Fort-Liberté, Hinche, Les Gonaives, Port de Paix, Anse-à-Veau and Miragoâne, Jacmel, Jeremie, Les Cayes.

The Episcopate of the Dominican Republic will be represented for its part by all the titular Bishops, Bishops emeritus and auxiliaries, under the leadership of H.E. Mr. Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez in his capacity of President of the Episcopal Conference of Dominican Republic (EC).
