Haiti - Reconstruction : Water for 2 million Haitians thanks to Spain 22/03/2012 12:19:36 With this fund, the Spanish Cooperation will finance similar programs throughout Latin America and the Caribbean until 2015 and whose the most important program is the one who is in implementation phase in Haiti. The primary objective of FCAS is to reduce by half before 2015 the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe water and basic sanitation. In Haiti, the Spanish Cooperation Fund has approved a total of five programs: A Bilateral Program, implemented in partnership between the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECI) and the National Directorate for Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) and four Multilateral Programmes, channeled through the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and also performed with DINEPA. These programs will benefit to more than 2 million Haitians. The Fund in Haiti, in execution since 2010, envisages actions of investment in water infrastructure and sanitation in urban and rural environment. A major program of institutional strengthening support the sector reform, the decentralization and the improvement of the operation for better service to citizens. To all this, we must add a program of response and prevention to cholera, whose, among other things, the construction of the excreta treatment plant of Titanyen which will be put into operation in April 2012, is an example.
