Haiti - Economy : Leopard Haiti Fund will invest millions of dollars in the Haitian private sector

Last Monday, a new investment fund "Leopard Haiti Fund, LP" has signed an MoU with IFC (International Finance Corporation) the branch responsible of private investments within the World Bank Group. In this agreement, IFC will invest 10 million U.S. dollars in this new fund.

Laurent Mackhoul, an associate of "Leopard Capital", declared that objective of the fund of Haiti, was to raise 75 million dollars, noting that Leopard Haiti Fund hoped to raise $20 million over the next 3 months adding that two other development banks, had expressed their interest to invest in this fund. The money will then be invested in the corridor South of Haiti, in small and medium enterprises in four main sectors : agribusiness, housing, computer technology and tourism. Up to 25% of this fund may be invested in companies based in the Dominican Republic that want expand their operations in Haiti. Laurent Mackhoul reported that a team charged to examine the possible investments, was already at work in Haiti.
