Haiti - Social : 5th anniversary of the Digicel Foundation

Digicel Foundation, celebrates its 5th anniversary of creation this week and the company Digicel took the opportunity to announce that Digicel Haiti will be the first company to grant one day of paid leave to all its staff in order to make volunteering in the activities of the Foundation.

The Foundation also announced, in a press conference, it had a fund of $ 300,000 until March 31, 2013 and that it was looking for quality projects, from grassroots organizations throughout Haiti. "The Haitian organizations wishing to apply to this fund will find a form [which can be completed in Creole] on the Foundation website at : www.fondationdigicelhaiti.org. If organizations do not have access to the Internet, they can write to the Foundation describing their project in detail while including a budget," explained Ms. Josefa Gauthier, non-executive President of the Digicel Foundation. Projects will then be reviewed by the Foundation Board, which is composed of staff from Digicel "We are particularly interested in sustainable projects that address issues of education, youth and disabled people, from all over the country [...] Our motivation is to support the communities that have already demonstrated their commitment and their dedication to improving their own futures. The experience of the last five years has made us very optimistic and we firmly believe in the potential of Haiti for a better future, at the community and national level."

Since its creation, the Digicel Foundation has invested over 25 million U.S. dollars in Haiti, these funds were used to build 70 schools throughout the country. The Foundation is working to build 80 more schools, bringing the total to 150 in 2014.
