Haiti - Agriculture : Closing of the agricultural project of the ADRA in Petit-Goâve
Ms. Keteline Israël and Mr. Julien Jean Robert, heads of the regional office of the Agency Adventist Development and Relief of Petit-Goâve (ADRA) have closed Friday, April 20, 2012, during an official ceremony, an agriculture project implemented in two communal sections of Petit-Goâve, second and third sections of Trouchouchou.

Launched in July 2010, this project which lasted two years, was funded to the tune of around U.S. $900,000 jointly by "ADRA Czech" and "ADRA Canada" and implemented by ADRA Haiti.

Several activities were carried out during this project:

  • Distribution of seeds to farmers
  • Training of 100 facilitators or agricultural extension workers
  • Various practical work
  • Knowledge transfer to farmers
  • Works of water catchment
  • omposition of insectides
  • Creation of two micro-agricultural farms

800 farmers have benefited directly from this agricultural project, which aimed to improve food security for victims of the earthquake of January 12, 2012. "Agricultural yields of peasants of Trouchouchou, increased significantly through the implementation of this program," declared the agronomist Sterlin Frenel, Director of the Communal Agricultural Bureau of Petit-Goâve who congratulated the leaders of the ADRA.

ADRA's regional office, intends to undertake in the coming days, other activities to Trouchouchou such as the construction of latrines and the opening of an Center of high fashion in favor of women farmers.
