Haiti - Technology : Real-time monitoring of weather risk
Sutron Corporation, a global leader in hydrological, meteorological, and oceanic monitoring products, systems, software and services, announced today that they have signed a major contract for Haiti.

Sutron has signed a sub-contract with Chemonics International Inc. for the Haiti Watershed Initiative for National Natural Environmental Resources (WINNER) Project, funded by USAID.

This project involves design, supply, installation, testing, and training for a Flood Warning System (FWS) in the Cul-de-Sac corridor, which includes the Riviere Grise and the Riviere Blanche.

Sutron will supply and install a real-time Data Collection System employing both primary and safety back-up modes of communication employing digital cellular and Iridium Satellite communications.

The system will include an ALERT Siren System to warn inhabitants of impending floods when the collected data parameters trigger alarm levels. Sutron will also provide the Central Base Station to receive the cellular and Iridium data transmissions and PC work stations (with an uninterruptible power supply system). At the culmination of equipment installation, a detailed Sutron training program for authorized Haiti Watershed and Flood Warning staff will be conducted.
