Haiti - Agriculture : «The urgency can not be an option»

On 1 May, feast of Agriculture and Labor, the President Martelly in his speech to Damien, took the opportunity to ask to the Minister of Agriculture, Hébert Docteur, to accelerate the process of rehabilitation of agricultural farms necessary for the revival of agricultural research and of the challenge that represents the degradation of our environment.

"...I take this opportunity to ask to the Minister of Agriculture to accelerate the process of rehabilitation of farms recently engaged and necessary to the recovery of agricultural research [...] the establishment of a national program to popularize the technology, the strengthening of agricultural mechanization, the modernization of irrigation techniques by extending the drip system, the mastery of the greenhouses and more [...]

We can not talk about agriculture without talking about our deteriorating environment, the recent rains continued to carry all our arable land [35 + million tonnes / year] ; the watershed management requires time, the only possible strategy for now is to clean out the rivers and ravines in risk areas, to consolidate the banks to facilitate drainage, prevent and destroy buildings anarchic [...] instructions were passed in this sense, to the authorities concerned [...] to respond to urgent, but the urgency can not be an option [...]"
