Haiti - Education : 2 new computer labs in Les Cayes
As part of its Quick Impact Projects (QIP), the Minustah has provided this week, the Faculty of Agronomy of the UNDH and the Mary Immaculate Conception School of a computer lab. Two projects funded to the tune of 50.000 U.S. dollars.

The computer lab of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University Notre Dame d'Haiti (UNDH), includes 25 computers with Internet, 6 UPS (Uninteruptible Power Supply), 2 printers, and furniture. It will serve not only students of the Faculty, but also students of six secondary schools from the town of Torbeck (around 2.000 students). The laboratory of Mary Immaculate Conception School, includes 10 computers, also connected to the Internet, 6 UPS, 2 printers and furniture, for all students and graduate of the fundamental level of this institution.

According to Father Hervé François, Head of Caritas Diocesaine South, who has made the application for funding of these two laboratories with the Minustah, the absence of this structure "was not without impact on the presentation of homework and the quality of education provided, not to mention the value of citizens formed on the labor market, even its place in a society that has become global."

"This computer lab is a major advantage for students because they have Internet access, so to the virtual library, to conduct research because there is no university without research," declared Oremil Morin, academic Secretary of the Faculty of Agronomy of the UNDH.

For his part, Maxime Belteus, Deputy Commissioner of the district of Les Cayes noted, during the inauguration, that this "gesture of the Minustah demonstrates its commitment to assist to the capacity building of educational institutions of the area for improving the quality of education."
