Haiti - Politic : Inauguration of Laurent Lamothe and installation of Ministers today

This Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the National Palace, the President Michel Martelly, will proceed with the inauguration of the new Prime Minister of Haiti, Laurent Lamothe and the installation of the new members of ministerial cabinet. That same day at 2:00 pm will be held the First Council of Ministers.

Tuesday, the eve of his inauguration, Laurent Lamothe at a news conference at the Plaza Hotel in Port-au-Prince, talked about his team and some of his immediate priorities.

"tomorrow the installation will be made [...] we ask them [new government team] to work day and night, without stopping to find solutions to problems, we know there are many problems, the task will be difficult but with perseverance and determination we can succeed [...] we have over 10 million Haitians who depend on us, we must succeed, and the team that is here, is a team that will succeed. We will ask the team results, for what the people demand, he finds it.

I want also note that for the first time in the history of the country, we reached over what the law mother asks [the amended Constitution unpublished, provides 30% of women] in women's participation in government [7 women ministers] [...] they are women who are competent, who are patriots who love their country and who will change things. They will begin work immediately upon installation, to begin to bring relief by their professionalism and seriousness.

So like I said, tomorrow the installation will be made at 9 am, then there will be the first Council of Ministers, after their installations. We will make an innovation, the first part of the Council of Ministers will be live on television, for all the people can see government at work. We will not broadcast all the Council, because there are things that should remain private, but all the advancements of projects, ministry priorities will be live on TV [...]

We will work on a priority basis on key points, such as strengthening security [...] we are working with police on a plan to close the city so that the police work together with the MINUSTAH, for the people can feel their presence, see them in the street and that things be done effectively. When something goes wrong, the police must answer, therefore, we will get to work with a plan to strengthen security in the city [...]

The city [Port-au-Prince] is dirty, there are a lot of waste, the people living in very difficult conditions. Everyone agrees that unsafe is not acceptable, we will begin to launch the operation Clean City 2, which will be a massive effort to clean up the city.

Many of our roads are damaged, a lot of holes... there are many roads in the country that are completely destroyed. We will launch again a massive road maintenance, so that people can go to work smoothly and that our roads are back to normal.

That's a plan in the immediate that we will do, not to mention that now we will enter into the main priorities of the reconstruction. We will sit down soon with the CNMP [National Commission on Government Procurement] to discuss, because the reconstruction is ready to begin, we are ready to rebuild public buildings, to make roads. Much money is already there, but not all... So we will sit with the CNMP for that work can be done as soon as possible..."
