Haiti - Politic : 7 women ministers, a first in Haiti
7 women in government is the recognition by the acts, of what the citizens have been demanding for years: full equal participation in decision making. UN Women therefore take this opportunity, to wish that the new government also ensures the implementation of the quota rule at all levels of government, and encourages political parties to facilitate the participation of women in the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in Haiti.
Moreover, women's participation is a first step towards the development and implementation of gender-sensitive policies, which should be reflected in the budget of the Republic. UN Women expresses the wish that the whole of government policy firmly committed the State to the inclusion of gender in all spheres of public life, particularly in health, education, justice, land use planning, security policy and all aspects that can guarantee full recognition of women's rights and their effective participation in national reconstruction and consolidation of a democratic society.
