Haiti - Politic : First Council of Ministers 18/05/2012 10:08:48
In accordance with Article 154 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic His Excellency Joseph Michel Martelly chaired the Council of Ministers of Wednesday, May 16, 2012, attended by the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe. For the first time, television channels and local radio stations were able to broadcast live coverage this Council dedicated to the operational plans of Ministers, who presented their concerns and future projects. This first Council of Ministers was particularly long because of all the delays accumulated since the last Interministerial working session and the necessity of addressing issues of national importance; it started around 4:00pm and ended at 1:30am. The President Michel Martelly emphasized on the obligation to provide results, requiring from each Ministers of the Government, actions demonstrating their capabilities of good governance for the people, stating that he will evaluate their actions in 3 months in order to improve performance. For his part, the Prime Minister, focused on its program of fight against extreme poverty, environmental protection, the revival of agriculture, the continuation of the program of free education for all children and the construction of social housing. The Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe then made a scren projection on an urgent plan to rebuild essential public buildings, sports centers, hospitals, roads and universities in record time. The Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe then explained the constraints of the law on the award of contracts and supported the idea of President Martelly, to form a legal committee to obtain an amendment that will allow to pass the actual level of disbursement of projects, at the level of internationally accepted standards, to go faster in the establishment of some reconstruction projects. The Council of Ministers closed with the determination to propose to Parliament in the coming days, at least three new projects, aimed at promoting sustainable development in Haiti. HL/ HaiïtiLibre
