Me Thierry Mayard-Paul, the Minister of Interior, proceeded, Tuesday, June 5 at the installation of Claude Raymond Junior [former Deputy Director] at the head of the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE). He replaces Roland Chavannes, who led the DIE for 8 years.

The Minister explained this change "...in the new administration ... we need to boost the Directorate, Mr. Chavannes will remain as a consultant, the Deputy Director has been promoted in his place.

We are already studying the establishment of a body border to monitor the border, because we loses about 40 to 50 million U.S. dollars per month, due to smuggling... That's one of the big projects we have.

We also have a project of coast guard [...] we will also monitor the migratory flow of foreigners entering and leaving the country, whether by boat or by road and who do not pay anything, we need to control all these things [...]

we will also enter into the civil affairs of state, because you know that abroad, the offices of Immigration and Emigration handle the State Civil Affairs. We will produce these documents on a digitized sheet, which can not be faked, like the old papers. Now, all birth certificates will be made on security paper, which corresponds to all international standards, these are new projects for the DIE [...]"

In his speech for the occasion, after the thanks of uses, Claude Raymond Junior, the new Director, has promised to reduce the slowness in the delivery of passports "do not forget ... we have a computer system that is very old, dating back about 10 years, [...] we had a contract with the same company that supplied the system we had before, but it we can not deliver all the equipment we need, before the month of November ... by then we will do the best we are able to deliver the passports in time [...] for the passport with a period of 10 years, we have just received 500,000 new passports, it is a matter of time before the decree is promulgated by the Head of State, but the new passports are already there..."
