Haiti - Social : Sophia Martelly calls for solidarity towards the elderly

This Friday, June 15, "7th World Day of fight against elder abuse" the First Lady, Sophia Martelly launches a solemn appeal to all Haitian citizens, recommending them the solidarity towards the elderly.

The First Lady solicits of all : families, entourage, associations, governments and those concerned ; a concerted action against all forms of abuse, violation of bodily integrity, mental, to liberty or financial security, affecting the elderly.

This Friday, the entire Haitian community, from Haiti and the Diaspora, is invited to the mobilization, in order to allow senior citizens, to decide freely of their right to social life and fraternity. "Everyone has a duty to contribute to the establishment of conditions essential to the living together, prerogative of all modern democratic societies."

The First Lady of the Republic pays special attention to women representing 75% of the most vulnerable elderly, because they are too dependent in Haiti. She encourages the host institutions, despite their lack of staff and resources, to better consider their case.

The First Lady hopes that elder abuse is fought without respite. It is for her, an act of conscience against an unacceptable phenomenon.
