This Monday a bus making the trip Port-au-Prince-Jérémie overturned while trying to cross the river Glace who was then in flood, this happened close to Duchity, commune of Pestel (Grand Anse)

The Department of Civil Protection informs us that the record is of 40 bodies recovered and 9 survivors, and that a team of the Civil Protection transferred the survivors to CYMED of Beaumont for necessary medical care. The researches are continuing.

The DPC has just informed that until now the figures are not fully verified. A final assessment will be provided as soon as available.

Note of correction of the DPC dated June 20, 2012
The departmental Coordination of the Civil Protection of the Grand Anse intends to provide further details on the figures released so far [...]

[...] Here is the exact toll (to date) of the accident: 19 survivors were recorded including a pregnant woman and a child. The bus would carry, according to the owner, 27 passengers and more, according to witnesses.

Even today, the volunteers of the civil protection , of the Haitian Red Cross and members of the population continue the search along the river, but no body was found so far. The Departmental delegation and the SNGRD intend, in the future, strengthen further the internal management of information in order to be able to give to the population, permanently, accurate and reliable information that they expect.

Prohibition of cross rivers under any circumstances. In his message of June 1, the Minister of Interior and Local Authorities had hammered the prohibition to cross the rivers in flood, of any manners (walk, animal, car...) The SNGRD reiterates this instruction with the public and invites all concerned by the security of the population to contribute to enforce this rule and others.
