Haiti - Social : DNA Test and responsible fatherhood 28/06/2012 14:40:07
Last Friday, at a conference to the FOKAL, Marie Laurence Jocelyn Lassegue, the former Minister for Women who had proposed and supported the law on responsible fatherhood and filiation [voted in May 2009 in the Lower House in April 2012 in the Senate], has wished that the DNA tests allowing the determination of paternity, are accessible to women and men and in less than 10 years, these tests will be free, as is the case for the HIV testing. According to procedures established by the new law on responsible parenthood, the demand of paternity can now be introduced by the mother before the trial court or another judge designated by the court. The parent or her adult child, are allowed to produce all the evidence, including DNA testing recognized by law. Recall that before the law [which has no yet be promulgated in the official gazette Le Moniteur, to enter into force] the Civil Code of 1825, considered the determination of paternity by the mother, as an illegal act in the eyes of the law.
