Haiti - Tourism : Signature of an agreement between Mexico and Haiti

Following the visit to Mexico in April, of Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, Ms Gloria Guevara Manzo, Mexican Minister of Tourism signed yesterday Wednesday, during an official ceremony in Mexico City, a cooperation agreement, to promote economic and social development of Haiti through its tourist sites. This is the Haitian Ambassador Guy Lamothe who represented, for the occasion Stéphanie Villedrouin, who signed the agreement.

This cooperation agreement of National Fund for Tourism Promotion "Fondo de Fomento al Turismo Naticional" (FONATUR) includes the participation of organizations and public and private entities working together to coordinate programs in tourism ; seminars and conferences ; consulting services and expert support, whose a first mission should soon go to Haiti.

It should be noted, that this is the first time in the history of FONATUR, that a country requires the cooperation of this important institution which brings together 32 entities and manages 148 programs.

The Ambassador Lamothe declared "this initiative is part of the new foreign policy advocated by Haiti's President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Laurent Lamothe, to make of Haiti a country open and ready to receive visitors and entrepreneurs."

For her part, Gloria Guevara Manzo, praised the dynamism of the Haitian government, including that of Minister Stéphanie Villedrouin, which displays its determination to make of tourism a leading economic axis for Haiti.

Haitian and Mexican authorities have also agreed, to share statistical data and information likely to promote the tourism development of the two Nations.
