Haiti - Politic : Improve and strengthen border control
The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe visited the town of Ouanaminthe Thursday, July 5 to inquire about the situation of this border zone. This tour of a few hours allowed the head of government to observe the functioning of the Directorate of Customs and other public services of the region.

The Head of Government took the opportunity to talk with local and regional officials to establish an inventory concerning the commercial activities binational. To this end, the Prime Minister emphasized on the need to build a checkpoint modern meeting international standards on the border Haitiano-Dominican.

These new provisions will allow to better control the flow of imported products, to reduce the traffic flow of illicit goods, increase customs revenue, and simultaneously address the problem of human trafficking to this border.



Moreover, the Prime Minister Lamothe, indicated that he came to Ouanaminthe to meet people and to transmit the greetings of President of the Republic. He has also informed about of projects of his government that begin during the month of July :

  • Remediate the urban center and the surroundings of Ouanaminthe ;
  • Building a Rehabilitation Center for Youth ;
  • Rehabilitate and upgrade public infrastructure at borders ;
  • ncrease the number of police officers in that jurisdiction ;
  • Make Donation of two garbage collection trucks to the town of Ouanaminthe under the operation "clean city" implemented by the government Martelly-Lamothe across the country.

Recall that in late June, the Prime Minister had held the first meeting intersectoral on border management at the police station of Malpasse. Several executives of state institutions, whose the Haiti National Police (PNH), the Directorate General of Customs, the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration, the Prime Minister were present. Participants discussed have addressed the issues of capacity building of intervention of Haitian institutions, the infrastructure condition, the harmonization, relationships between the organs of the Haitian State, the institutional support to the sectors along the border lines, the continuation of political dialogue with non-state actors involved in border management and timely intervention of the State to respond to crises and reprehensible actions.

Other similar meetings are planned in other border posts in order to better understand the problems of border management of the two brotherly peoples, Haitian and Dominican.
