Haiti - Culture : Inauguration of the media library «Kay mizik la»

The Foundation Haiti Jazz in partnership with Haiti music and Caracoli, has proceeded last week, in downtown of the capital, at the inauguration of the media library "Kay mizik la" (the house of the music) designed to archiving all the musical works composing the musical memory of Haiti.

Funded to the tune of 5 million gourdes on 9 months by the European Union (EU), this project falls within the strategic framework of the EU of strengthening of the music sector in Haiti. "Haiti has interesting cultural resources," stressed Leandro Medeot, Representative of the EU at the inauguration, he says see in Haiti "of artistic and cultural sectors carriers of economic and social development."

This media library will make available to the public, for a small annual fee, the whole Haitian music (in various formats) as well as books and music scores. It will also be a meeting place, where professionals from the industry : musicians, musicologists and technicians, will be able, through workshops, roundtables, lectures and conferences and debates, perfect, explained Milena Sandler, Director of the oundation Haiti Jazz adding "Our media library Fund is still very modest [...] we hope, that all holders of works of the Haitian musical heritage will agree to share them with us, so that we can put them available to the public."
