Haiti - CEP : The President Martelly grants a new delay for Parliamentarians

This Wednesday, August 8, 2012, the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, has officially written once again, to the Presidents of both houses of the Haitian Parliament to grant them a new delay of 8 days to designate their representatives to the Permanent Electoral Council (CEP).

In this correspondence, the Head of State states that, in accordance with Articles 136 and 192 of the amended Constitution of 1987, Executive and Judicial powers, have already designated respectively the names of their members to compose the CEP.

The President Martelly, in order to ensure compliance with the Constitution and the stability of institutions, believes that the establishment of the Permanent Electoral Council, within a short time, is indispensable for holding free, fair and democratic elections in the country. He also urged the egislative power to proceed as soon as possible to the choice of representatives to facilitate the starting of electoral process which should lead to the renewal of one third of the Senate and to regularize the situation within Local Authorities.
