Haiti - Social : The UNNOH claims a base salary of 50,000 gourdes for teachers !
According to the Coordination of the National Union of Haitians Normaliens (UNNOH) teachers do not intend to endorse the increase of 20%, voted by parliamentarians in the lower house in the draft budget 2012-2013.

According to Josué Mérilien the Coordinator of the UNNOH, who rejects categorically the salary increase of 20% proposed, the claims remain the same : revision of the pay scale, establish a base salary of 50,000 gourdes and provide better working conditions to enhance the teaching profession and help integrate new young... "How can you dare decide that a salary of 9,000 gourdes is sufficient for a teacher for feed themselves, clothing, rent, and prepare its retirement ? How can we expect a quality education for our children ?"

He warned that if the authorities continue to ignore their claims, the Government must expect protests from 1st October. For its part the National Confederation of Haitian Educators (CNEH) reported that its bases in provincial cities are ready "we are determined to require of the authorities a reconsideration of wages."
