Haiti - Agriculture : The agricultural sector severely affected
According to a preliminary report of damage in the agricultural sector, provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), compiled from information from the Departmental Directorates Agriculture (DDA), key informants and of the DPC, 81.250 ha of agricultural land were affected following the passage of Isaac.

The agronomist Frantz Joseph, working with the DPC for the Ministry of Agriculture indicated that it will take at least six weeks to have a complete evaluation of damage caused by the passage of Isaac.

In the department of Southeast the agricultural area affected is 16,000 ha, mainly at the level of banana plantations, beans, coffee, avocados and citrus, at the level of livestock, 5.000 goats, 240 cattle, 1,000 pigs, 50 horses and donkeys were affected.

In the South Department, the agricultural area affected is of 250 ha mainly at the level of plantations of beans, corn and banana.

In the department of Northeast the agricultural area affected is of 2,000 ha at the level of plantations of beans coffee, cocoa and corn.

In the department of Artibonite 4,000 ha were affected.

In the department of North 3.000 ha were affected, principally of plantations of banana, beans and avocados.

In the Department of West the agricultural area affected is of 12,000 ha, the plantations of corn, beans and bananas were the most affected.

In the Nippes 9.100 ha of agricultural land were affected.

In the department of Grand Anse an agricultural area of 16,500 ha has been affected.

In the Central Plateau the agricultural area affected is of 13.400 ha.

In the North West Department 5.000 ha of bananas were affected.

For its part, the FAO reports heavy losses in livestock nearly 2,000 heads.
