Haiti - Energy : EDH will install 40,000 remote meters

Wednesday, Andress Appolon was heard by the Senate Committee on Public Works, who wanted to know more about the ongoing projects of the Electricity of Haiti (EDH).

Before the Commission, Andress Appolon announced that within the framework of the new billing system, developed by the EDH, 40,000 meters that can be remote read, will be installed from February 2013. These meters will allow to better control the production and distribution of energy and and above all will facilitate revenue collection. Recalling that the EDH had more than 2 billion gourdes unpaid bills of its customers.

The Director of the EDH has also confirmed to the Commission that the Government will invest 160 million U.S. dollars in the modernization of the EDH to increase the number of hours of electricity in Port-au-Prince. She also informed the Senators that the EDH has also the support of the Interamerican Development Bank and the U.S. Agency for International Development who will finance the renovation of 8 sub-stations in Port-au-Prince, and the integration of new technologies into the network of the EDH.
