Haiti - Security : Dominican Republic strengthens border watch
The Dominican President, Danilo Medina, ordered Tuesday the strengthening of the border of Montecristi in Pedernales. The General Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, Chief of the army announced the creation of a new land border security force (Fuerza de Segura Tarea Frontera), which will strengthen the Special Unit of Border Protection (Cesfront). The General began a reconnaissance of the border, which began in Montecristi and will will end Friday, in Pedernales.

This new military force is composed of 3 groups of 30 men (including officers) which will be operational as of Saturday, September 15, 2012.

Each group has a truck equipped with computers, night vision equipment, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, radio equipment and other logistics to facilitate the fight against the smuggling of goods, drug trafficking, livestock theft and other violations of the law [and probably the monitoring of illegal Haitian migrants...]

During his tour, the Chief of the Dominican army, will meet with farmers in Montecristi, Manzanillo, Dajabón, Restauración, Loma de Cabrera, who have expressed their concern over the theft of their animals perpetrated by gangs, composed of Dominicans and Haitians.

This new force will be based respectively in Pedernales, Elías Piña and Dajabón from these bases, the men will be deployed along the border.
