Haiti - Literature : Gary Victor shortlisted for the Prix Médicis in 2012

The jury Médicis published this Tuesday, its first list of novels selected, for its French and foreign awards, which will be awarded on November 6, 2012, a list including among other the last novel "Maudite éducation" of journalist, playwright and Haitian writer Gary Victor. The signature of this novel will takes place Saturday, September 15, 2012, at the Bookstore "La Pléiade" 10 am to 4 pm.

Gary Victor explains "[...] You know after having worked a long time on a text [...] it is a joy It is the pride of being a little in the excellence, because the novels shortlisted for the Prix Médicis, these are novels that the jury read, that deserves to be there, so be in the excellence it is always a great pride [...] 'Maudite éducation' was released in April 2012, is a novel that has captured the attention of most of the literary columnists [...] I'm practically in all the selections for the literary season [...] from the first selection, the jury will still read, discuss, anyway it is already a great pride for an author to be in the selection, now it is the jury that will decide [...] it would be a great pride for me to win the award after that Dany Laferrière has won it, but to be among the selected novels is already a great visibility bot for me and the publisher (Philippe Rey, Paris) who had confidence in me..."

Maudite éducation tells the story of a teenager, Carl Vausier, in Haiti in the 70s, torn between the fear of a rigid father and the desire to explore the new continent of the sexuality when walking in the slums of Port-au-Prince, prostitutes provide him the pleasure so desired, but also tell him the lives of women amazing, victims of history and human cruelty. His real sentimental initiation will begin, however, to the favor of a correspondence with the mysterious "Heart Who Bleed" (Cœur Qui Saigne). The novel becomes that of two people wanting to catch up with the past, rewrite their own history, while around them the redoubled violence, that the military roaming and act with unprecedented brutality.

Born in Port-au-Prince, in permanent exile in his third of island as he likes to say, Gary Victor, journalist, playwright, writer, is the author of an important literary work that explores the inner worlds the most singular.
