Haiti - Elections : The CEP is working, despite the contestation...
Despite the contestation, the 6 electoral advisers, of the Permanent Electoral Council (CEP) [pending the appointment of 3 members of parliament] are working to prepare for the next elections.

Last week, Gabrielle Yacinthe, the Director General of the CEP, accompanied by 6 councilors, met with representatives of the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI), of the National Office of Identification (ONI),of the Centre National of Geo-Spatial Information (CNIGS), of Ministry of the Interior and of Territorial Collectivities and of Ministry of Justice and Public Security "We want to explore with our partners the opportunity to realize very soon the next elections in the country. Each of our partners identified, has a role to play in the organization of the next elections," declared Philippe Augustin, Director of registersin the CEP adding that he can not to date, ensure that the CEP will be able to hold elections before the end of the year "Advisers are currently evaluating the technical ability, before making projections [...]," statements that deny the rumors, who suggested that the electoral calendar was ready.

According to Mr. Augustin, several aspects must be considered before the holding of elections, evoking a financing of 36 million U.S. dollars needed for the organization of electoral contests. More than double of the amount announced on 24 July 2012 by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, who had mentioned an amount of $16 million... Meetings with international donors are expected in the coming days...

Concerning the challenge on some members of the CEP, the former Minister of Justice, Me Josué Pierre-Louis [Representative of the Executive] and President of the Electoral Council, stressed recently that "contrary to what some seem to believe, the President can no longer return on the mandate of electoral advisers [...] The swearing in of elecoral Advisers before the Court of Cassation purge all the real or supposed irregularities," deploring a heated debate, the politicization and trivialization of legal principles.
