Following the formation last week of a new majority bloc of 60 deputies in the lower house "Parliamentarians for Stability and Progress (PSP)", the Deputy Jean Tholbert Alexis, General Coordinator of the PSP, gave explanations on the role of this new political block.

"[...] This new policy instrument will allow us to better harmonize our job at the House. My role is to consolidate the majority block [...] we will work on legislation [...] as the law on the civil pension plans, to allow people from the private sector to have access to the pension as stated in Article 48 of the Constitution. We will work on the issue of health, because the President Martelly, In an interview I had with him, explained of programs and Article 22-23 of the Constitution, obliges the State to create social programs. So the work that we will have to do is to vote of legislation, who are benefit for the population and allow that there is a good harmonization between the two powers.

Our oversight role, we will fully play it, because control it is influencing, control it is guiding, besides the President and the Prime Minister, told us, that we had to draw their attention when something does not work, to be able to move in the right direction.

We must stop this scorched earth policy that antagonizes the powers, it is necessary to harmonize while maintaining the independence of the two powers. [...] We ratify a government, we want to accompany this government to allow it to land policy, it means that it is a block that unequivocal support the government policy.

[...] It is not the President that we have ratified, So the President does not need a block, it is the Government that requires a majority, the day when the Government loses its majority, the government will fall. So, this is something that is very simple, the majority ratified the Government, now we formalize the majority with the PSP [...]

We have not yet stopped position concerning the Permanent Electoral Council, but I can say you, as we are under the aegis of the amended Constitution, the principle of the Permanent Electoral Council is an achievement for us, and we will not go back on that, we have a position, which consists to move in the direction of the Permanent Electoral Council..."
