Haiti - Reconstruction : Laurent Lamothe wants to replace the former CIRH by a Haitian Commission

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, wants that the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission (IHRC) [whose mandate was not renewed] becomes a Haitian Commission on the high governance, with the following members : the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, and other ministries concerned by the reconstruction.

The Head of the Haitian government, made this statement on the sidelines of the 67th regular session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), at a major bilateral meeting Thursday with Helen Clark Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Prime Minister also reiterated the commitment of his Government to strengthen its cooperation with the UN agency, which has stepped up its initiatives in Haiti to help the people of Haiti after January 12, 2010. In 2011, UNDP had nearly doubled its cooperation with the Government of Haiti and intensified its efforts in the management of rubble and in reconstruction initiatives, while creating thousands of jobs.

The Head of Government also insisted, during his meeting with Ms. Clark, for the UNDP undertakes more alongside Haiti, which is finally launched on the path of change.

Recall that the UNDP cooperates with Haiti through five priority areas of work: poverty reduction, democratic governance and rule of law, environmental protection, capacity building, crisis prevention and the fight against AIDS and tuberculosis.
