Haiti - Economy : Forced recovery, the DGI has already recovered more than 40 million Gourdes
Jean Baptiste Clark Neptune, the Director General of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) announced that nearly three-quarters of the 66 people who were on a red list of taxpayers who owe a debt to the state, have regularized their situation. To date, the DGI managed to recover more than 40 million gourdes, what proves that a large portion of people on this list, were not for reasons of political persecution...

"The forced recovery is a permanent function of any tax administration, because no tax administration can function without a structure of forced recovery [...] The bad taxpayers often seek a defense, saying that this is a political persecution," declared the Director General of the DGI to reporters, adding that in the case of Dr André Borno [that said to be in good standing and victim of political persecution] the latter would have several apartments rented in the heights of Peguyville, which have not been subject to a tax declaration..."

Note : 1 U.S. dollar = ± 42 Gourdes
