Haiti - Reconstruction : 10 million Euros for road maintenance

The Ambassador Javier Pérez Nino, Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Haiti, and Mr. Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, Transport, Energy and Communication (MTPTC), have officially proceeded this Friday morning, to the joint signature of a subsidy contract amounting to 10 million Euros in favor of the Road Maintenance Fund (Fonds d'Entretien routier - FER) of Haiti.

This funding, that will extend over the period 2012-2017, will allow to support the MTPTC in its action to ensure regular maintenance of roads in the country, essential to the movement of people and goods, business development and to the improvement of the level of life of people.

This subsidy falls within the framework of the program of the European Union to support to the National Transport Policy (APONTRA), amounting 184 million euros, which aims in a comprehensive manner to improve access of the Haitian populations to basic infrastructure, through efficient and sustainable road transport.
