The international tender, concerning the construction of the Hospital "Providence" of Gonaïves was awarded to the Spanish Group Abantia, in consortium with Construcciones Cots y Claret, for an amount of U.S. $14.3 million, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency through UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services Project). This contract includes all construction and external management of the hospital complex.

With an area of 10.380 m2 and a capacity of 200 beds. The new Hospital will have as vocation the care to mothers and children. It will include : 4 blocks of hospitalization, a surgical unit, a maternity, intensive care unit, particularly for newborns, emergency services, laboratory and pharmacy, among others. It is also planned the construction of outbuildings, including a chapel, housing for medical staff and a "women's house" to accommodate pregnant women, as well as a "waiting village" for people who accompany patients.

The construction period is estimated at 18 months and the new hospital is scheduled to open in 2014.
