Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly met the Haitian diaspora of the DRC 14/10/2012 12:54:23
Saturday evening on the sidelines of the 14th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Francophonie, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by Richard Casimir, the Foreign Minister and the Roving Ambassador of Haiti in Africa, Mr. Jean François David, met the Haitian Community in the town of Gombe, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Warmly welcomed at the hotel "Havre de Paix", the Head of State has offered his solidarity to this community composed of former technical executives of the Haitian Government [arrived in Congo at the invitation of the Congolese Government in the 60s, after the departure of the Belgians], of new executives coming for the most of positions at the United Nations, NGOs and of private sector and those, younger, born in Congo Kinshasa. These three groups onstitute the Haitian diaspora in DRC, strong of a hundred executives who play an important role in the construction of the Congolese state. Accompanied by several members of their family and friends, the Haitian community did not hide its excitement and praised the work and courage of President Martelly in the implementation of a system based on democracy, the rule of law and universal values. "This is a first visit that revives us and reassures us !" they declared to the Head of State. The President Martelly promised them his support and took the opportunity to expose them the major development axes underway in Haiti, and invited them, if they wish to return home to lend a hand to the Haitian youth, particularly in the field of education and vocational training .
