This travel of President Martelly in Japan, originally scheduled from 27 to 30 August 2012, had been postponed in December due to the passage of Isaac over Haiti. The Head of State had considered essential to stay in the country to assist his people in such a crucial time.

The President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the First Lady, Ms. Sophia Martelly, will leave the country on Monday to Japan, where he will do an official visit from December 5 to 8, as part of the promotion and the dynamisation of commercial relations between the two countries.

The Head of State, whose stay in Japanese land, is a first in the annals of diplomatic relations between the two countries will meet at the Imperial Palace with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Friday, December 7.

On the other hand, the President Martelly will meet the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Yoshihiko Noda. He will also meet with officials of the Japanese Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the intensification of relations and of the bilateral cooperation with Japan mainly through :

• Budgetary support ;

• The recovery of domestic production ;

• The support to the National Police of Haiti ;

• The intensification of cultural exchanges ;

• The intensification of commercial exchanges.

Japan is one of the reliable partners of the Republic of Haiti. Its contribution to the reconstruction and development of the country, following the damage caused by the earthquake of January 12, 2010, reflects its strong commitment to the Haitian people.
