Haiti - Education : First meeting of the Inter-University Consortium

Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the University of Montreal, members of the Board of Directors of the Inter university Consortium for the Rebuilding of the Haitian Education System (CIRSÉH) held their first meeting with representatives of the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and Vanneur Pierre Minister of National Education and vocational Training.

This first meeting made it possible to put in place the mechanisms of the Consortium to designate the leadership and to take note of the projects under development.

At the same time, members of the Board received with great satisfaction, a financial support of $100,000 granted by the Ministry of International Relations, La Francophonie and Foreign Trade of Quebec.

At the end of the meeting, the President-elect of the Board, Mr. Jacky Lumarque, Rector of the University Quisqueya in Haiti, thanked all the guests for the confidence they have placed in him and especially stressed the importance of this large projet of cooperation "I am pleased, on behalf of all my fellow Haitians, of this unique opportunity given to us to work on the refoundation of our education system. Our success will guarantee the recovery of our country. I know we all embarked on this path with determination and conviction and I thank you sincerely."

Ms. Nicole Lacasse, Vice-Rector for Studies and international activities of the Université Laval, was elected Vice-Chair of the Board and Ms. Francine Boudreault, Advisor to the International Development in Department of International Relations of the University of Quebec in Montreal, will act as Secretary General of the Consortium.

The Inter university Consortium for the Rebuilding of the Haitian Education System, the CIRSÉH is a group of ten higher education institutions in Haiti, two Canadian universities and six Quebec universities whose mandate is to work on capacity building of Haitian institutions of higher education in order contribute to the recovery of the Haitian education system, in particular through the implementation of the Operational Plan prepared by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training in Haiti.

Adventist University of Haiti, The Public University of the North Cap-Haitien, The Autonomous University of Port-au-Prince, The Public University Southeast in Jacmel, The State University of Haiti , the Public University of the South Cayes, Haiti Episcopal University; Quisqueya University, the University of Notre Dame d'Haiti (UNDH) the Public University of Artibonite in Gonaives and the Faculty of Science of education Regina Assumpta in Cap Haitien.

Canada :

The University of Moncton, University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, University of Montreal, University of Quebec, headquarters, University of Ottawa, University of Sherbrooke, University of Quebec in Montreal and the University Laval.
