Sunday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, arrived in Vietnam, at the head of a delegation composed among others of Ministers Marie Carmelle Jean Marie (Economics and Finance), Thomas Jacques (Agriculture), the Director of the Office of Program of Development Assistance (BMPAD) in order to discuss of relations of cooperation between the two states.

Welcomed at Hanoi by the Ambassador of Vietnam in Haiti, based in Cuba, Mr. Vu Chi Cong, the Chief of the Haitian Government whose travel in this Asian country is a first in the history of relations between the two countries, will have talks in particular with the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam HE Trương Tấn Sang, and his counterpart Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. It will be mainly to establish between the two states, of new partnerships in the fields of agriculture, education, energy, trade and industry.

After his first meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, the Prime Minister made a press conference.

"Ladies and gentlemen,

It is with great pleasure that I came here today in Vietnam for a working visit and of friendship, to strengthen the bases of a South-South cooperation between our two countries. The people of Vietnam and Haiti share a history of struggle to conquer and maintain their dignity of people and sovereignty.

[...] I seized the occasion Mr. Prime Minister to publicly thank you for the welcome you have given me and that you have reserved to the Haitian delegation and for the support given to Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake of 2010 [...]

This welcome augurs positively the relationships we have strengthened today. My visit to Vietnam aims to develop our cooperation at three levels: political, economic and cultural.

Counting Mr. Prime Minister on Haiti as a strategic partner and safe for Vietnam.

Mr. Prime Minister, we live in a globalized world where telecommunications can transcend cultural barriers, physical and also ocean. The presence of a Vietnamese company, Viettel in Haiti is an outstanding example of this globalization in motion.

As we discussed it during our meeting, we urge the Government of Vietnam and Vietnamese companies to come and invest in Haiti.

[...] We have today in Haiti, the largest industrial park, the largest industrial free zone and industrial of the Caribbean, that of Caracol.

[...] We therefore invite Vietnamese companies to come and establish a presence in the free zone of Caracol, to create jobs in Haiti, also enjoy the benefits of these zones. Haiti has the space, labor and proximity to markets in the U.S., Canada, Caribbean and the HOPE Act, This allows to reexport to U.S. the products, without customs duties, which would be a huge benefit for Vietnamese companies.

I thank you for having initiated the exploration mission to come to Haiti to see what this park has to offer, as Vietnam has the technology and know-how. The time has therefore come, through a mechanism of South-South cooperation to create a genuine space of investment and economic development between our two countries.

In the coming hours and days, we have to discuss and deepen our dialogue. My Minister of Economy and Finance, who accompanied me, will explore with his Vietnamese counterpart investment opportunities in different sectors and opportunities to create new joint venture with Vietnam.

Mr. Prime Minister, thank you again for the invitation and I reiterate my invitation for your next visit to Haiti. I thank you and I thank the Vietnamese people of this warm welcome to the haitian delegation of high-level on the Vietnamese territory [...]

So I say Vive Haiti and Vive Vietnam."
