Haiti - Economy : Significant increase in inflation in November 2012 26/12/2012 11:08:21 The monthly variation in inflation in November was mainly due to the increase of components "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+1.4%), "rent housing, energy and water" (+0.4%), "development and maintenance of housing "(+0.3%) and" other goods and services "(+0.5%). The increase in component "Food, drinks and tobacco" is due to the price increases of millet (+1.8%), salt herring (+10.2%), cod (+2.2%), eggs (1.9%), bananas (10, 2%), green peas (3.8%), dry pea (+10.2%), eggplant (+2.2%), malanga (+5.6%), the potato (+4.1%), the real tree (+2.2%) and potato (+1.8%). The increase in rent housing + 0.8% is mainly due to the increase in "rent housing, energy and water"; prices of other products in this group remained stable. The increase in component "Development and Maintenance Housing" has for cause the price growth of salon furniture (+3.8%), tablecloth (+0.2%) and bed linen (+1.5%). The increase in "other goods and services" is due to the increasing in the price of toothpaste (0.8%) and body cream (7.8%). Inflation has been felt more in the southern region [southern departments of Nippes Grande'Anse and] in the region remains West, which includes the departments of South-East and West +1.7% ; excluding the metropolitan area. The metropolitan area [Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix-des-Bouquets and the transversal regionthat includes the departments of Artibonite and Centre, recorded an inflation rate of +0.4%.
