While waiting the reconstruction of the new Cathedral of Port-au-Prince, whose design was presented earlier this week https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7468-haiti-reconstruction-the-project-of-the-new-notre-dame-cathedral-of-port-au-prince-in-pictures.html those responsible of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, announced Friday that the construction work of a transitional church, were underway, on the space of the former Cathedral of street Docteur Aubry [destroyed by fire in 1991].

According to Mgr Patrick Aris, Vicar and Chancellor of the Archdiocese, the new church will be used throughout the reconstruction period of the new cathedral in order to enable the Bishop to celebrate the religious services in place of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

With a capacity of 2,000 seats, estimated at $1 million, the work should be completed within 9 months "Its use will be transitional for the Cathedral, but it will final use for other activities," indicated Mgr Patrick Aris.
