Sunday, the Dominican Navy has arrested 44 fishermen-poachers of Haitian origin, that were illegally fishing in the territorial waters of the Dominican Republic, on the North coast of Manzanillo, in the border province of Montecristi, an environmentally protected area where fishing is prohibited. 10 boats were seized during the operation and the Haitian nationals were handed over to the Dominican migration authorities of Dajabón.

According to official sources, for the last 4 months, 128 Haitians were arrested for illegal fishing in the territorial waters of the neighboring Republic and at least 40 boats were seized.
