Haiti - Politic : The Prime Minister met with journalists from the diaspora

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, met to the Primature, a dozen journalists of the Haitian community of the United States, in the presence of the Consuls General in Miami, Atlanta, New York and Orlando, who were part of a delegation visiting the country for three days in order to retransmit to the diaspora, of images of accomplishments of the Administration of the Government Martelly-Lamothe.

This cordial meeting, preceded by the screening of documentaries on the program of universal education, free and compulsory (PSUGO) and of social assistance program "Ti manman cheri", was an opportunity for the Prime Minister, to emphasize, the major achievements of his government in the areas of education, infrastructure (roads, airports, sports, tourism), electrical energy, social protection, the fight against extreme poverty and the high cost of living.

The Head of Government also presented to journalists, the major projects for 2013 in various areas, such as economic governance, tourism, electricity, public safety, construction of roads, ports, airports, the protection of the environment and food security, social housing and the relocation of displaced persons still living in camps.

He mentioned among others :

  • That the Government had 45 million from the Petrocaribe Fund for the electrification regular of the metropolitan area of ​​Port-au-Prince by the month of June. In this same area, a pilot project should start soon in Jacmel, where $45 million have already been invested, particularly in the construction of the port, a bus station, six public squares and the rehabilitation of municipal markets.

  • That various roads sections will be rehabilitated in the metropolitan area of ​​Port-au-Prince (Fermathe/Frère), in the departments of the Centre (Hinche/Cap-Haitien Cerca-Cavajal).

  • han 140 mini-stadiums, including basketball fields and performance spaces will be built to complete the construction work of 18 stadiums already started in the country.

  • That the reconstruction of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti will start in May 2013 and that $51 million will be disbursed for this work and that two hospital centers will subsequently be built, one in Bon Repos and the other in Cité Soleil.

  • That in accordance with its program of food security and of stabilization of food prices, 12 storage facilities with a capacity of 30,000 tonnes of rice each will be established across the country to avoid potential scarcities of products on the market.

During this meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated his willingness to work for the development of the country and the well-being of the people of Haiti and reiterated the commitment of his Government to support the Haitian diaspora in the struggle for progress
