Haiti - Communication : Freedom of the press, Haiti 49th out of 176 03/02/2013 09:31:51 "The Dominican Republic rose 15 places to 80th because of a decline in violence against journalists and legal proceedings that threaten freedom of information. But it is still far behind its neighbour Haiti (49th), where the situation is still largely unchanged although some journalists have accused President Michel Martelly of hostility towards them," indicates RSF in its report 2013. In a statement, Ms. Régine Godfrey, Minister of Communications, on behalf of the Government welcomes the progress of Haiti and reiterated the firm commitment of the Government to guarantee these achievements, which are essential for the proper functioning of democracy and the rule of law and promises to continue to work for the respect of right to information and freedom of expression of everyone and to improve relations between the state and the press.
