Haiti - Social : Improvement of the conditions of detention in the Prison of Petion-ville
This week, Rosanne Auguste, the Minister Delegate in Charge of Human Rights and the Fight against Poverty Extreme, proceeded to the distribution of 325 hygiene kits, 300 sets of sheets, 300 mattresses and pillows to the different inmates at the civil Prison of Petion-ville. This intervention aimed at improving the poor conditions of detention of women and underage girls of that prison.

The Minister Auguste stated that this distribution was part of a vast operation of the Government, aimed at providing the main prisons in the metropolitan area of some types of materials, responding to the urgent needs expressed by the Directorate of Prison Administration.

Inmates have welcomed the distribution of mattresses, pillows, sheets and hygiene kits composed primarily of soaps, toothpastes, laundry detergents, sanitary napkins and toilet paper, while stressing to the Minister, during her visit of cells, their situation of justiciable.



As part of this intervention, the Minister Rosanne Auguste was accompanied by Marie Yolène Mathieu, Responsible of the civil prison of Petion-ville, of Marjorie Saint Jean, Director of Prison Administration and Marie Mista Toussaint, Financial Controller of Prison Administration.

The Minister recalled that the Administration Martelly-Lamothe was determined to make every effort to foster throughout the territory, the respect and promotion of the rights of every Haitian.

In addition, the Office of the Minister consider the implementation of several activities for women and underage girls from the Petion-ville Prison, including : conducting theater workshops, of painting, writing and cosmetology courses and of embroidery to assist in support and facilitate the rehabilitation.
